Subscribe Remember the Fallen by Steve on May 29, 2017 Today is not Veteran’s Day – we have our day and we appreciate all the thanks. Today we honor those that gave their lives for their country. The sons and daughters that never made it home. Think about that in personal terms for at least a brief moment. Everyone who has served this country lost friends, brothers, or sisters. Today is about them and the families they left behind. Ever since congress changed Memorial day from May 30th to the last Monday in May the disconnected masses have forgotten what the day is supposed to be about. It’s just another long weekend, a day off from work, grilling, boating, and play. While you’re engaging in your 3-day weekend take a moment to remember who gave it to you. Those who serve or have done so appreciate your gratitude but they will be quick to gently remind you today does not belong to them. If you feel the urge to thank someone in uniform today please alter your thanks and honor the fallen by saying something more appropriate like I’m sorry for your loss.” To the ageless faces that float in my memory I whisper Rest easy my brother, we have passed your saber and it is in good hands indeed.” Your sacrifice was not in vain. Wish you were still here… { Comments on this entry are closed } Hacks by Steve on February 20, 2017 Not hackers, just hacks. Useless vermin looking for trouble. I’ve been bit twice now and so we’ve installed extra security which is supposed to keep this sort of thing from happening. Until it happens again. You’ll notice the last post is from 2015 so we lost a few. Not a huge setback since I haven’t been writing much and it was a painful decision to spend the money to protect this site. Having done so means I must get back in the habit of writing or it will have been more money wasted. It was a toss between spending the funds and simply shutting down The Shed but that would have been conceding defeat to the low life scum that decided to come through the back door and spread their graffiti. The thought crossed my mind that quite possibly they work for the security company that came to the rescue. Their cheap scanning caught the intrusion and attempted to auto-correct the situation but of course the infection was more serious and I shouldn’t mind paying for peace of mind, after all this is the world we live in these days. Ah, progress… { Comments on this entry are closed } Sledding January 5, 2015 I caught a snip on the news this morning regarding the dangers of sledding. Hmmmm, had no idea that throwing yourself down an icy hill at high speed head first might be dangerous. It seems there are several communities that are considering banning the practice. Presumably government knows best. If we continue to remove the […] Read the full article → Cutwater Marine Services January 4, 2015 Shameless self-promotion: my most recent venture is about to go live (months behind schedule thanks to all the flaming hoops presented by local government)! Located at 646 Russell Road, Alexander City AL, in the heart of the demolition zone that used to be the old Russell Mills complex, Cutwater offers on-trailer boat storage to the Lake […] Read the full article → The Three Amigos January 30, 2014 The oldest of the clan was mercifully set free from his failing body today, it having endured almost 15 years of Lab stuff (swamps, ice, mud, ducks, and more water than a fish). He joins his two younger brothers from different mothers who I’m sure gang-tackled him as soon as he crossed the bridge. This […] Read the full article → Brothers September 16, 2013 Sam, Goose, and Pinch all reported in from DC. They’ve all been in harm’s way far more than I and in distant corners of the world. Warriors all, trained to fight and lead, to defend against all enemies foreign and domestic. I dare say none ever really expected to see the domestic version materialize as he […] Read the full article → The Case Against Syrian Action September 4, 2013 Remember Libya and how the UN fixed that little problem? Well, the fix didn’t take. Expect much the same from launching missiles on Syria. Go read up on Libya. H/T to Perry for the link. Read the full article → Obama’s War August 28, 2013 The shed has been a quiet little shack the last few. I haven’t found anything worthy of wasting energy on of late. Society seems hell bent on shredding the last ounce of decency left in the republic and I wanted no part of it but now the liberals have pulled me out of the shadows. […] Read the full article → Selective Censorship June 27, 2013 Paula Deen did what? She uttered racial slurs at some point during her life? And because our media and our culture are bound by such high standards we now must wipe any trace of her existence off our screens and shelves?
